A test case has been launched by trade unions in London's high court last week to prevent the switch in public sector pensions from the Retail Price Index to the Consumer Price Index. This change was announced in George Osborne's budget in his June 2010 budget and came into force April 2011. read more »

We've just heard from a dental client that is a Principal of his own practice. He's a Provider and a Performer although he is also incorporated. This month, for some reason, his NHS payments for him and his team (all self employed associates) hasn't been deducted. read more »

The new Government is changing the contribution limits on pensions. Here's a brief summary of the key changes:
• From April 2011 the annual allowance will reduce to £50,000 (fixed until tax year 2015/2016)
• Contribution to NHS pension schemes will be valued using a factor of 16
• Tax relief will be available at dentists' marginal rate read more » -

Private equity firm Carlyle has signed a £450m deal to create the UK's biggest dental group with about 450 practices across the country.
Carlyle has bought Integrated Dental Holdings (IDH) from Bank of America Merrill Lynch and is merging it with rival Associated Dental Practices (ADP). read more »

The Treasury has now released the draft of the proposed changes to pensions legislation from 6th April next year.
Most of this draft legislation reflects what was announced in October - in summary, those changes were:
There will be no restriction of pension tax relief for additional rate tax payers
The Lifetime Allowance will be reduced from £1,800,000 to £1,500,000. read more »
