Dentists to be targetted by HMRC in latest Crackdown

Doctors, dentists, and other professionals have been warned they are the targets in a new HM Revenue & Customs crackdown on tax evaders.

I'm not personally convinced that many dentists need to worry about this. I can't think of any dentists I've worked with over the last 10 years that has tried to evade tax they genuinely owe. Perhaps this is due to the majority who are not prepared to jeopardise their professional standing and careers to save a few quid.

However, HMRC in their wisdom clearly feel they need to fill the gaping hole in the Governments finances and that this is what's needed.

Other than double checking your accountant is declaring all income earned, and not including expenses you shouldn't be, the best thing you could consider is taking out some insurance to cover your accountant's expenses, in the event you are investigated.
